A minimum of three to five treatments is recommended for optimum results.
Patients with uneven texture, skin tone and variations in color pigmentation have been treated in the past with Chemical peels and Dermabrasion. During the past few years, high-energy light therapy has been used very successfully for patients with these skin conditions, as well as for treating fine lines and wrinkles by stimulating collagen, the tissue that provides elasticity in the facial skin.
Who does the treatments? All IPL treatments are preformed by certified medical professionals. Our registered nurses, under the supervision of our Medical Director, will make sure your treatments are safe and effective.
How much discomfort will I have? Generally, minimal discomfort is experienced with the application of topical anesthetic prior to treatment.
How often can treatments be done? For most patients, 3-5 treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart are recommended for the most significant results.
How much improvement can I expect? Patients with minimal wrinkles, blotchy uneven texture, and facial blood vessels can expect great improvement. Your first change will be improvement in texture and tone. The skin will be smoother and softer. This first phase occurs after the second treatment. Improvement in color and wrinkles occurs after the fourth or fifth treatment. Those patients with severe wrinkles and scars will require a more assertive program.
What are the side effects? A small amount of flushing, or redness will follow the treatment and generally lasts from 30 minutes to several hours, but in some cases may last a few days. The brown spots and uneven pigmentation will become slightly raised and darker over the next 3-5 days. The pigment will “slough off” within 7-10 days post treatment. Blisters can occur, but are uncommon. Smoother, softer skin and improvement in uneven pigmentation can be expected within weeks.
